Electronics city waste management facility got smarter!

As part of Smart city initiative @ Electronics city, ELCITA (Electronics City Industrial Township Authority) has launched a smarter solid waste management facility on 25th January, 2017 towards achieving “Zero waste to Landfill”. ELCITA has been running a SWM facility for the last 3 years in partnership with Waste Wise Management and Consulting Services (WWM&CS) and I Got Garbage (IGG) platform by MindTree.

Waste wise management and consultancy services is a private socially conscious company with three decades of experience in waste management field and I Got Garbage is the social technology initiative of Mind Tree.

ELCITA has made a partnership with SweepSmart, a social enterprise from Netherlands interested in clean India movement. SweepSmart has worked over the past 3 months with ELCITA, WWM&CS and IGG to plan and implement process improvements for better segregation, better quality of work for sorters and make the facility a state-of-the-art facility. Also, collaboration helped in installing custom-designed conveyor belt, designing & implementing new process like improved collection scheduling, dashboard visualizations for analysis of KPIs.

We believe that this process when replicated in other solid waste management centers across India will boost Swach Bharath Abhyan of the government and also help to spread responsible waste management.

Here is a glimpse of the workshop.

I’m Hariharan from Chennai,Tamilnadu,India. I’m currently pursuing my masters degree in Environmental engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology,Chennai. Our institute encourages us to go internship for atleast a month after the end of the second semester/First year(June-July). Since I’m interested in Solid Waste management topic ,I’m keen to join and look forward to enhance my practical knowledge. Is there any chance to work with your company as an intern??
